Imagine cancelling such an incredible sci-fi show. That, Dark Matter and Sense8.
It’s a bit hard for these companies to whine about torrenting when they control who sees what, and when. Then they cancel some of the most incredible sci-fi ever produced because they feel like it.
So the whole torrenting complaint isn’t about cast and crew being paid. It’s not about ensuring that payment for watching sci-fi means more and better content. It’s about controlling what viewers have access to.
So they can go suck my proxy.
Experiencing homelessness.
After three years of bullshit with ten different agencies and horrible back pain from sleeping in the car, I have a little bit of respite now. I’m in a motel that frequently has applications from people fleeing domestic violence, or, like me, trying to find somewhere safe where there’s a lockable door and a clean bathroom.
My pets are likewise better for it. The dog can go whenever she needs rather than having to hold it too long because the public toilets could be filled with diarrhoea, syringes or PUA’s working their way up to raping people.
I’ve had a tentative offer of a short term transitional place, I’m working through whether I’ll be safe there and how my own symptoms might affect the couple of other people living there. The owner wants to do the right thing by me but at the same time he doesn’t need someone who’s PTSD is now so ramped up that they might belt someone if a fire alarm goes off.
In the meantime I’m going to have to start a GoFundMe to cover the costs of staying here and then moving there. Hopefully Laxmi will be generous. I need about $3,000 to cover all the costs and then what he’s asking in rent is very reasonable.
The owner has a bit of space on the property and will need some lawn mowers. He used to work with horses, as did I. So it looks like we’ll be taking in a few animals that need some kindness and a forever home. I guess this is the sort of thing best whispered into the ear of the Nandi Bull.

More interesting than a wedding.
My beautiful old beagle girl who usually has to sleep in the car with me and the cats. We’re getting a few nights’ respite and everybody’s loving it. Heater. Running water. Toilet we don’t have to drive to that’s full of diarrhoea and used fits. Luxury!
And yes, I’m not too proud to beg. Every $112.50 gets us another night until some more agency funding comes through. I’m not spending much of this fortnight’s pay on extra nights because it’s time for everyone to visit the vet. We get half price help, but living in the car is much more expensive than you’d think.
There’s no refrigeration or much storage so you’re constantly buying small serves and cans. The amount of waste produced from packaging is a serious guilt trip.
And this is me. A disabled grandmother. But compared to some of the folks I know, I’m on a good wicket. I’ve been able to keep my pets and the car. The local cops are pretty chill and rather than tossing my stuff, they asked me to sleep up around the corner from the watch house so they don’t have to worry about our safety when the “daddy’s a lawyer” white boy types start setting fire to the toilet blocks.
The toilet blocks I have to use to wipe down with antiseptic wipes and change, and depending on the mess sometimes I get to brush my teeth.
Some people do this for fcuking years. There’s 87,000 people without safe, affordable housing in Victoria, Australia. They fiddle the numbers down to 30k odd by not counting everyone who’s couch surfing or in a car, like me.
But we’re here and you can bet we’ll be doing our best to make housing an issue for upcoming elections.
Phalaharini Kali Puja.
This new moon day marks Phalaharini Kali Puja, a special night dedicated to Mother Kali. The name Phalaharini means ‘She who takes the fruit’, it has a double meaning in relation to Mother Kali. According to popular legend it was on this night that Lord Krishna took the form of Kali in order to fool the husband of His lover Sri Radha. He asked Radha to gather the fruits of the forest and place them at His feet as if in worship, Krishna then assumes the form of Phalaharini Kali, She who takes the fruits.
Phalaharini Kali Puja is said to be an extremely auspicious time to worship Kali, because in this form as Phalaharini, she takes away the fruits of our Karma or actions. We see in the image of Kali she wears a skirt of severed human arms, though on first appearances it seen like quite a macabre image, the symbolism is very deep. The arms represent our actions, and Mother Kali wears them as an ornament. We leave the fruits of our actions at the feet of Phalaharini Kali on this night as an offering of worship.
In recent history Phalaharini Kali Puja gained notoriety as the night Thakur Sri Ramakrishna worshipped His wife as the Divine Mother, and His followers around the world offer special worship to Maa Sarada on this occasion. This pastime of Thakur came about after the conclusion of years of intense spiritual practice, He placed everything at Her feet, all the fruits of His austerities, worship and devotion, never before have we seen a male spiritual leader give so much importance to womanhood as Sri Ramakrishna. I pray Mother Kali takes the fruits of our actions on this holy night, and in turn offers us the fruits of Her blessings.
At the very least, control pollution and consumerism.
